Become an Optimist during these Economic times...and Be Gratefull!

July 15, 2022
For the past few months (years, really) it seems 24/7 stream of bad news bombarding us all the time.
Markets, the economy, housing prices, grocery store prices, gas prices, and that whole COVID thing that's still happening. And now inflation is at a 40 year high of 9.1%.
It's a lot. It does not even include the stuff that is happening at home, with your families.
So, what do we do?
Do we give in to doom and gloom? Scroll the negative headlines and listen to the negative self-talk in our heads?
Or do we look for the bright spots in our lives? And remember the facts about economics. On average, bear markets last about 11 months. After a bear market comes a bull market where growth happens.
Meantime, during this bear market, we at Advance Financial Lighthouse is constantly reviewing our client accounts to see how we can benefit when the bull market returns. We are rebalancing, some are buying Defensive Stocks or taking opportunities to buy Cyclical Stocks at really low prices so they will make up those losses when the bulls return. Rebalancing a portfolio is very important because over time, based on the returns of your investments, each asset class will change, altering the risk profile of your portfolio. We are changing to money managers that are more suitable to the current markets. If you're invested in a mix of relative winners and losers, it helps to minimize your portfolio's overall losses. At the same time, we are constantly buying investments at a low price and when the bull market returns, that's when growth can occur.
We are doing the work. Our team is Here For Our clients. Overall, we continue to promote staying invested and the importance of having a long-term outlook on your investment plan. Allowing your emotions to carry you away from an invested portfolio has historically been a losing proposition. Sticking to the basic fundamentals of investing during periods like what we are going through is the key.
It helps to Maintain a Gratitude Attitude
Gratitude and optimism always get our vote instead of doom and gloom. We don't mean putting your head in the sand and ignoring what's happening. We mean actively taking a look around and appreciating the blessings in our lives.
Our families. Our friends. Our neighbors and communities. Our progress. Our place in this beautiful world. Practicing "conscious gratitude."
What are you grateful for right now? Can you hit "reply" and let me know?
Take a deep breath. Keep on going. Folks find the uncertainty of what MIGHT come next challenging. If that's you, what if we focus on being present and connecting with what's going well right now?
What's good in your world? What inspires you right now? Can you let us know?
We wish we could tell you it was all going to be rainbows and unicorns ahead. But there will be bumps in the road. Focus on long-term performance versus day-to-day volatility is the best medicine.
We are optimistic about what's ahead as long as we maintain a gratitude attitude.
