Losing your spouse is one of life’s most profound experiences. We walk beside widows with compassion, patience, and no pressure whatsoever — giving you space to grieve while protecting your financial future.

Managing Everything for Everyone

Who Is Managing It for You?

Managing a family’s finances is one of the most important and least celebrated roles a woman can hold. Whether you head to work every morning or run your household full time — you are already doing the work of a financial manager. You are budgeting, planning, protecting, and providing for the people who depend on you every single day.

But here is the question most women never stop to ask — do you have an actual plan behind all of that effort? A financial plan does not just organize your money. It gives your efforts a direction. It turns the daily decisions you are already making into a strategy that builds toward something real.

Financial planning does not guarantee perfect outcomes — but it gives you the confidence, the preparation, and the strategy to face whatever comes next on your terms.

A Note to Black Women Building Wealth

You Have Always Been Welcome Here.
Now We Want You to Know It.

For too long, the financial services industry has not shown up for Black women the way Black women show up for everyone else. You have built careers, launched businesses, raised families, and created opportunities where none existed — often without a financial partner who truly understood your journey, your community, or the unique financial realities you face.

At Advance Financial Lighthouse we see you. We understand your world — not just professionally, but personally. Kathy Williams RFC® has spent over 30 years serving women who look like you, carry what you carry, and dream what you dream. This practice was built for every woman who deserves better than the financial industry has historically given her.

You have always been welcome here. We want to make sure you know it — and that you feel it from the very first conversation.

Financial Education for Women

Why Financial Planning
Matters for Women

Women often face financial challenges and opportunities that make financial planning especially important. Many women experience career changes, time away from the workforce for caregiving, longer life expectancies, and increasing responsibility for managing household finances. Whether single, married, divorced, widowed, or a business owner, having a financial plan can help create confidence and clarity when making important financial decisions.

Financial planning is more than investing money. It is a process of understanding where you are today, identifying where you want to be in the future, and creating a strategy to help you get there.

A comprehensive financial plan can address cash flow, debt management, retirement savings, investment strategies, insurance protection, tax planning, and estate planning. When these areas work together, women are often better prepared to navigate life’s opportunities and unexpected challenges.

Retirement Planning for Women

Women generally live longer than men, which means retirement savings may need to last for decades. Planning ahead can help women understand how much they may need to save, when to claim Social Security benefits, how healthcare costs may affect retirement, and how to create sustainable income throughout retirement. The earlier planning begins, the more options may be available in the future.

The Caregiving Reality

Many women also serve as caregivers for children, aging parents, spouses, or other family members. These responsibilities can affect earnings, retirement contributions, and long-term financial goals. Financial planning helps women evaluate trade-offs, prepare for future caregiving expenses, and maintain progress toward their own financial independence while supporting the people they love.

Becoming a Caregiver

Building Wealth as Women Lead

As women continue to become executives, professionals, entrepreneurs, and primary breadwinners, wealth-building opportunities are expanding. Financial planning can help transform income into long-term wealth through disciplined saving, investing, risk management, and tax-efficient strategies. It can also help women align their financial decisions with their personal values, family priorities, and life goals.

Planning Brings Confidence

Perhaps most importantly, financial planning can provide confidence. Life is full of transitions — career changes, marriage, divorce, widowhood, retirement, inheritance, caregiving, and business ownership. A thoughtful financial plan can help women make informed decisions during these transitions and feel more prepared for whatever comes next. Rather than reacting to financial events as they occur, planning allows women to take a proactive role in building the future they envision for themselves and their families.

Marriage and Blended Families

Marriage brings two financial lives together — and with it, a new set of decisions, conversations, and responsibilities. For many couples, navigating joint finances, differing money values, and combined debt or assets can be one of the most challenging aspects of building a life together. For blended families, the complexity increases. Combining households, managing finances for children from previous relationships, and planning for the future of a new family while honoring commitments from the past requires thoughtful, intentional financial planning.

Whether you are newly married, remarried, or navigating the financial dynamics of a blended family, a financial plan can help you and your partner align your goals, protect each other, plan for your children, and build a future that works for everyone in your family. Financial planning for blended families often addresses estate planning, beneficiary designations, life insurance, education savings, and retirement in ways that honor every member of the family — present and future.

At Advance Financial Lighthouse we help couples and blended families have the financial conversations that matter most — with clarity, respect, and a plan that keeps everyone moving forward together.

Frequently Asked Questions

Questions Women
Ask Us Most

You are not alone in wondering. Here are the questions we hear most often — answered honestly.

Do I need a financial advisor if I am not wealthy yet?

Absolutely. In fact the earlier you begin working with a fiduciary financial advisor, the more options you will have in the future. Financial planning is not about how much you have right now — it is about building a strategy that grows what you have over time. Many of our most successful clients started with us at the very beginning of their wealth-building journey. The best time to start is always now.

I have never worked with a financial advisor before — where do I start?

You start with a conversation — and that is all. No paperwork. No pressure. No obligation. We sit down together, talk about where you are today, what you are hoping to build, and what concerns you most. From that conversation we can tell you exactly what working together would look like and whether we are the right fit for you. Most people leave that first conversation feeling more clear and more confident than they expected.

What is the difference between a fiduciary and a regular financial advisor?

A fiduciary financial advisor is legally and ethically required to act in your best interest — always. Not just when it is convenient. Not when it pays them more. Always. A non-fiduciary advisor is only required to recommend products that are “suitable” for you — which means they can legally recommend a product that pays them a higher commission even when a better option exists for you. At Advance Financial Lighthouse, Kathy Williams RFC® is a fee-based fiduciary. Your interests always come first.

I am going through a major life transition — divorce, widowhood, or a career change. Can you help?

This is exactly when having a fiduciary advisor matters most. Life transitions are the moments when financial decisions carry the greatest consequences — and the greatest emotional weight. We have walked beside women through divorce, the loss of a spouse, career changes, business sales, and sudden wealth. We slow things down, help you think clearly, and make sure every decision is made in your best interest — not under pressure.

How do I know if I am on track for retirement?

That is one of the most important questions you can ask — and most women are not sure of the answer. The truth is that retirement readiness depends on many factors unique to your situation — your income, your savings rate, your expected retirement age, your Social Security timing, your healthcare costs, and the lifestyle you want to live. A comprehensive financial plan will show you exactly where you stand and what adjustments, if any, will help you get where you want to be.
